Book a guided visit

Groups of minimum 15 people can book a private visit of the Valsecchi collection, set in three rooms of the first floor, and in the rest of Palazzo Butera.

The eighteen-century ceilings are frescoed by Gioacchino Martorana, who paints the figures, and Gaspare Fumagalli, who paints the architectural trompe l'oeil between 1761 and 1763

Among the highly prestigious works of art collected by the Valsecchi and on show in these rooms, there are paintings by Annibale Carracci, Edward Burne-Jones or Koloman Moser, watercolours by Arthur Melville or John Robert Cozens, British and European Furniture of the time of the great exhibitions, early Doccia porcelains or art nouveau French glasses.

During the first floor restoration, the original panelling painted by Fumagalli was rediscovered under several layers of paint. The colours of these panels – rose pompadour, Ceylon green, indigo – resemble the hues of fashionable mid-18th century porcellain, of which the Prince was a keen collector. The tones of these original frescoes inspired the current pallette of wall colours, and were applied using a traditional tecnique called marmorino.
